American Shorthair Cat: Facts & Trivia
The American Shorthair cat was brought to American on the Mayflower. They were breed to be working cats designed to catch rodents on ships and in barns.
American Shorthair Appearance:
The American Shorthair is a medium sized cat, weighing 8-15 pounds (3.6-6.8 kg). As you might guess from their name, the American Shorthair has short hair and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. The colors include white, blue, black, silver, cream, red, silver, brown, and cameo. The patterns include solid, tortoiseshell, calico, bicolor, tabby, smoke, and shaded.
These are strong, sturdy cats with heavy boning. Their fur is dense, thick and relatively hard, as it is designed to protect her.
American Shorthair Personality:
The American Shorthair has an even, easygoing temperament. They enjoy their owners’ company, but can entertain themselves for long periods of time. They are great pets for single people.
Their favorite activity is bird and squirrel watching, while perched on a sunny window sill. They are moderately active. If they want attention, they will bring a toy to you or just hop into their owner’s lap.
They can live up to 20 years are healthy, hardy, and strong
